Brief History & Details Of The Temple.
Sree Garga Maharishi explained and detailed about 108 famous ‘Sthalams’ of Vinayagar in
‘Sree Gnana Puranam’. Out of this, 81st Sthalam is Sree Siddhi Buddhi Sametha Dakshinamoorthi Vinayagar Temple at Melattur.
Melattur is in Thanjavur District and 18 KM from Thanjavur. Melattur is very well known for performing Arts and specially for ‘Bhagavata Mela’
This is an exclusive Vinayagar Temple.
In this temple, there is a ‘Byravar’ Sannidhi, Chandikeshwarar Sannidhi and Yaga Salai and Madappalli etc. Chandikeshwar and ‘Nardhana Vinayagar’ are also processional deities.
This Temple has got 3 Praharams – one around Moolasthanam, another, around Vasantha Mandapam and the third is outside the Temple -Outer Praharam,
Monthly Aaradhana’s such as Sankatahara Chadurthi, Sukla Chadurthy, Astami Byravar Abhishekham and others going on regularly, During Vinayagar Chadurthi,’ Brahmotsavam’ takes place for 10 days prior to the Chadurthi and on Chadurthi day, Utsavam ends with
‘Theertha Vaari’ at ‘Viruddha Kaveri.
In all 10 days, ‘Veedhi Ula’ takes place with Dakshinamoorthy Vinayagar with Ambal Sree Siddhi & Buddhi.
On 5th day of Utsav, Vinayagar Veedhi Ula in Olai Sapparam and on 9th Day, Veedhi Ula in
‘Radham’
7th Day Utsavam: The speciality and significance of the Utsav is the 7th Day celebrations.
‘Thirukkalyanam’ takes place for Dakshinamoorthi Vinayagar with Ambaal Sree Siddhi and Buddhi. This is such a rare and Unique one among Vinayagar Temples in South. Lots of
people / devotees come from all over India to witness / worship and to seek the blessings of Lord Vinayagar. This year, ‘Thirukkalyanam’ will be on 24th August-2025
There is a strong belief and trust that those who are not getting married or getting delayed, pray on that day with a “Special Abhisekam” and the marriage takes place soon. It is not only an ‘IDEEGAM’. But, according to the elderly of Melattur, many such ‘Prarthanai Kalyanams’ took place at this Temple itself during the period of Late Sri.V.Ganesha lyer and his son Late Kalaimamani G.Swaminatha lyer, Melattur.
Hence, this Vinayagar is known and worshipped as “Vivaha Varamarulum Vinayagar”
This year, the Bramhotsavam starts on 17th August and ends on 27th August 2025 – the Vinayaga Chadurthi Day.
