Brahmasri Venkatraya Swaminatha Iyer (father of Late Sri. V. Ganesha Iyer – founder of Melattur Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Jayanti Bhagavatamela Natya Nataka Sangam), was the one mainly responsible for the construction of this Temple. He started the work and constructed Garpagraham, Ardhamandapam etc and did Kumbhabhishekam in 1898.
While the work of Maha Mandapam, Vasantha Mandapam, Raja Gopuram work etc was going on, he passed away and reached the Lotus feet of Lord Vinayakar.
After that, the eldest brother of V.Ganesh Iyer, Sri M.S Radhakrishna Iyer, took charge of the temple and completed the construction as begun by Sri. Swaminatha Iyer and the Kumbhabhishekam took place in 1918. Sri Radhakrishna Iyer took great interest in the upkeep and running of the temple, making its prasiddhi reach far & wide, thus earning the name of “Pillayar Tatha” from the local people of the village and from one and all.
After Sri M.S.Radhakrishna Iyer, his son Sri. M. R. Sivaraman took charge as a Paramparai Varrisu and continued as the trustee of the temple. Like father, he extended great service to the Temple.
Towards the end of his career, while he was not able to move around and with hearing problems, with his advice and guidance, his blood relation and grandson of V.Ganesa Iyer, Kalaimamni S.Kumar, continue to work for the Temple by conducting daily Aaradhanai/Abishekams, Bramhotsavam etc.
Moreover, when Sri.Sivaraman did Kumbhabhishekam of this Temple in 2007, he had publically announced that Kumar is his successor as Paramparai Vaarisu by asking the Acharya to do ‘Kaappu” for Kumar.
On 7th October,2011, he had prepared a ‘Will’ and written that S.Kumar should take over the duties of the Temple as Paramparai Vaarisu after him and Registered the Will with Sub-Registrar office, Maharnombu Savadi, Thanjavur – Ref No. No.39/2011.
After the death of Sri.M.R.Sivaraman, as a Paramparai Vaarisu, Kalaimamani S.Kumar (Bhagavatamela exponent) is acting as the Trustee of this Temple with the support of his brothers Sri S. Natarajan (Bhagavatamela exponent and Chairman of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Jayanti Bhagavatamela Natya Nataka Sangam), Sri. S. KrishnamurthI, Sri. S. Neelakandan, Village people, Mandakkapadi persons and all other well wishers of Melaturians who are settled in all parts of India and with the help of Devotees.
Keerthi (greatness of Melattur Sree Siddhi Buddhi Dakshinamoorthi Vinayakar)
There is a strong belief and trust that girls and boys who are seeking marriage, those for whom a good alliance maybe getting delayed, if they pray here at this temple and perform a Special Prarthanai Marriage Abishekam, and a marital alliance happens soon. This is not only an ‘Ideegam” but many such marriages have taken place at this temple, during the period of Late Sri.V.Ganesha Iyer and his son Late Kalaimamani G.Swaminatha Iyer and in the last 7 years after S,Kumar have taken charge.
They all come for the Thirukkalyanam of Dakshinamoorthi Vinayakar with Ambal Sree Siddhi & Buddhi on the 7th day of Bramhotsavam which takes place every year and extend their respects to the Vinayakar.
Hence, this Vinayagar is known, called and worshipped as “Vivaha Varamarulum Vinayakar” (the grantor of the boon of marriage).
